The Clinical Dietitian works closely with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy that are integrated and compatible with the patientâ™s medical program goals and objectives. Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy using established standards of care and practice protocol/guidelines; managing resources in a cost effective manner; participating in performance improvement efforts; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Utilizes hospital policies and procedures to identify patients with nutritional risk and provides expert nutrition assessment.
Â· Evaluates and monitors nutritional status of hospitalized patients ranging from newborn to geriatric populations as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic concerns, using established standards of care
Â· Develops and implements an individualized plan for nutrition intervention in accordance with the patientâ™s medical program goals and objectives, nutrition prescription, and self-management training.
Â· Obtains timely and appropriate data and analyzes/interprets data based on evidence-based standards
Utilizes hospital policies and procedures to provide timely and appropriate nutrition intervention and therapy within the scope of practice defined by the hospital
Â· Develops of a therapeutic plan of specialized nutrition support, including enteral and/or parenteral nutrition
Â· Provide recommendations for an individualized plan for nutrition intervention.
Â· Collaborates with pharmacists for provision of parenteral nutrition care.
Â· Evaluates the effectiveness and measures progress towards outcomes of medical nutrition therapy interventions
Â· Reassesses nutrition care process and implements changes as indicated.
Â· Communicates with the medical team through interdisciplinary meetings, rounds and discharge planning meetings.
Â· Assures that care delivered to each patient is in accordance with the State practice act.
Documents in the patientâ™s legal medical record
Â· Provides appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patientâ™s medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis plan, implementation, and progress toward goals

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Read, write and speak English; handwriting must be legible
Â·Must be knowledgeable with the National Research Councilâ™s Recommended Dietary Allowances.
Â·Must be able to communicate patient nutrition needs to the physician, nursing staff, and other appropriate staff.
Â·Ability to apply Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Process
Â·Mathematical capabilities essential to job duties

Â·Must be able to use a telephone, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and computer
Â·Inter campus travel
Â· Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND).
Â· Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or related area required.
Â· One year experience in acute care setting preferred.
Â· Experience using Cerner electronic medical record
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Â·Acute Care and Rehabilitation experience
Â·Master of Science in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or nutrition related field
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Â· Registered dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
Â· Florida Department of Health dietitian/nutritionist license
