This incumbent serves as a Health Technician (Paramedic) in the Fire Service at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center (BCVAMC). This Medical Center is primarily a Neuropsychiatric facility with 360 beds consisting of inpatient, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Substance Abuse, Nursing Home, Palliative Care, and Dementia Units.. Incumbent will transport patients to/from different medical care facilities following pre-determined routes. Duties will Include but not be limited to: Operating EMS emergency vehicles. Ability to develop patient care reports. Ability to effectively communicate with medical personnel relating to the patient. Ability to perform initial and ongoing assessments on patients throughout transport. Ability to manage patients relating to respiratory, cardiac, diabetic, cold/heat problems, etc. Ability to manage patients relating to trauma, such as cuts, broken extremities ,head/back injuries, etc. Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. to midnight, working no more than 40 hours per week with a variable schedule depending on when the transports would need to occur and the needs of the Veterans and Medical Center Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
