The psychologist serves as a fully qualified staff psychologist, specializing in Clinical Health Psychology, at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, (MEDVAMC), one of the most complex 1A VA facilities in the nation, majorly affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine, and member of the Texas Medical Center. The psychologist focuses on the integration of age-related reproductive mental and physical health care needs across the lifespans of MEDVAMC's Veteran Women. The psychologist focuses on the integration of age-related reproductive mental and physical health care needs across the lifespans of MEDVAMC's Veteran Women. The Psychologist will promote universal mental health screenings during the perinatal period as well as provide psychological risk and behavioral assessments for prenatal and postpartum concerns. Has a strong foundation in evidence-based assessment and psychotherapy and prioritizes the offering of evidence-based psychotherapy for PTSD as recommended by the VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guidelines in order to improve functioning and reduce PTSD-related symptoms. The psychologist will develop behaviorally-focused, outcomes-based treatment plans of care. The Psychologist will develop and implement Evidence-Based Practices for individual and group mental health services for women Veterans experiencing new onset or exacerbation of symptoms secondary to pregnancy, postpartum, infertility, pregnancy loss, menopause, and pelvic floor dysfunction or sexual dysfunction typically related to history of trauma. The Psychologist applies knowledge of behavioral medicine and psychotherapeutic techniques in the assessment and treatment of patients with the goal of assisting patients to partner with the interdisciplinary team in working to diminish, eliminate, or better cope with pregnancy-related medical conditions, such as pre-eclampsia, pregnancy-related hypertension, or gestational diabetes, as well as stabilization of common psychological conditions. The psychologist is familiar with fetal health and genetic testing and provides psychological services to assist mothers and families cope with fetal genetic disorders. The psychologist is knowledgeable about perimenopausal and menopausal hormone fluctuations and risk factors, such as the history or current diagnosis of PTSD or mood/anxiety disorders, limited social support, and disordered eating, that may intensify and or trigger the recurrence of mental health disorders. The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center is committed to both clinical and academic excellence. The facility and MHCL is affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine. Candidates should be academically oriented and will have an opportunity to collaborate with multiple disciplines in patient care, education and clinical research. The successful candidate will be eligible for a faculty position at Menninger Dept. of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8am to 4:30pm; with possible extended hours based on patient needs.
