ChristianaCare is looking for an Optician at the Optometry Health Care Center located in Newark, DE.
ChristianaCare's experienced, award-winning optometrists specialize in the treatment, diagnosis and management of eye diseases and disorders. We provide a full range of eye-care services, including: comprehenseive eye examinations for adults and children, prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses, treatment of eye diseases and injuries, diabetic eye care, laser vision correction, and treatment for glaucoma, cataracts, retina and macular degeneration, and other ailments.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains and manages frame inventory, contact lens inventory and optical accessories stock in a cost-effective manner.
Assist patients in choosing appropriate spectacle frames and ophthalmic lenses given the patient's prescriptive, occupational, avocation and safety needs.
Performs anatomical measurements for fitting of frame and lenses to ensure optimal optical performance.
Orders ophthalmic materials in an efficient and timely manner.
Prior to dispensing, verifies spectacles or contact lenses comply with FDA or ANSI standards and tolerances.
Performs spectacle adjustment, modifications and repairs to ensure proper fit and function.
Manages all ophthalmic good that are returned, defective, abandoned or expired. Is responsible for returning or exchanging goods in an efficient and verifiable manner to ensure least amount of lost revenue and/or expense to the department.
Fits and dispenses contact lenses within the scope allowed by state regulations.
solve optical design and fabrication problems for high and unusual prescriptions and accurate measurements for the proper fitting of contact lenses or multi-focal spectacle prescriptions
Performs in-office contact lens modification, cleaning and verification.
Maintains proper documentation of services performed in the patient's health record with SOAP format. Is responsible for keeping staff appraised of new products and services.
Adheres to HCC Eyecare Department policies and procedures regarding sale of products, pricing, fee collection, billing, discounts, and purchasing.
Maintains patient confidentiality by following policies and procedures.
Performs tasks assigned by the Department Head when indicated.
Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to the appropriate personnel, in a timely fashion, any unsafe activities hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School diploma/equivalent required.
Certified Optician. Must have completed the National Opticianry Competency Examination (NOCE) through the American Board of Opticianry.
Associate degree in opticianry or related field is preferred.
