This position is located at the Salisbury VA Medical Center, Salisbury, NC. The Nursing Assistant (NA) functions on a nursing care team and assists licensed nursing staff in the care of patients who are acute, sub-acute or chronic states of illnesses. The NA will typically have patient assignments which involve more complex nursing needs, and these needs can vary within a range of predictable to unpredictable requirements. Also will be assigned to support the Thermal Cameras operations. These duties may include but are not limited to: Assisting the Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse in the provision of patient care by meeting the patient's nursing needs; Maintaining knowledge and skill in performing support duties which include monitoring vital signs, pain level, height and weight, ADLs, finger stick glucose, body mechanics, etc.; Completing assignments and assisting others as needed; Participating in assessing patient's teaching needs and participating in patient and family teaching; Encouraging patient and family to attend educational classes such as diabetes, hypertension, nutrition, and weight management; Maintaining confidentiality of electronic, written and verbal patient/employee information; Demonstrating appropriate body mechanics when repositioning or moving patients; Maintaining the ability to physically intervene with disruptive patients and protect self and others from injury.
