This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Learn more The orthotist performs a broad range of orthotic services designing custom devices using standard components to optimize patient performance for difficult and complex but typical conditions. Incumbent does attend clinic(s) independently. The work involves identification of the biomechanical condition; explaining procedure to patients to reduce anxiety and gain support and cooperation; detailed patient assessment including conducting gait analysis, range of motion, coordination, balance and motor skills; interviewing patients for lifestyle assessments; taking necessary measurements, casts, or scans to develop positive molds; recognizing physical abnormalities, deviations, and complicating conditions; fabricating, fitting, and evaluating these custom devices; and maintenance of the patient's record. Due to travel to other Veteran Affair Medical Center (VAMC) within the Northern Tier of Veterans Integrated Services Network (VISN) 10, a valid and current driver's license is a required. Duties include but are not limited to: Incumbent works under the VISN I0 Northern Tier Orthotic Lab Supervisor to provide service in the programs of diabetic footwear and orthotic devices to the CBOC's of the Saginaw VAMC. Travel to provide diabetic footwear and orthotic devices to the CBOC's is a required element of this position. The position will be based out of the Grayling CBOC with travel to the CBOC's located in: Clare, Cadillac and Oscoda. Follows established regulations and procedures to insure patient privacy. Incumbent is expected to measure and fit therapeutic footwear to risk level; Type 2 and Type 3 Diabetics. Annotates patient's record in the Computerized Patient Record System (CCPRS) with regard to services rendered of treatment provided to comply with Quality Management and JACHO Standards and guidelines. Is responsible for following all manufacturer's specifications related to patient safety, lab safety and component safety.
