Purpose Statement / Position Summary
The Registered Dietitian (RD) is a specialist in nutrition who is responsible for medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and education of patients who are living with pre-diabetes or diabetes. Working in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, the RD shares current, evidence-based knowledge with patients and their families as well as with other health care professionals.

Essential Job Outcomes
Section II of the CAT. Specific job related responsibilities and duties.
1. Screens, prioritizes and processes patient referrals.
2. Reviews patient’s clinical information obtained through physician referral, laboratory reports and health records.
3. Conducts consultations with patients and performs nutrition assessments:
a. Uses effective interviewing methods to obtain relevant patient information
b. Uses accurate and pertinent data and information to identify nutrition-related problems
c. Develops appropriate, purposefully planned, and individualized interventions in partnership with the patient
d. Assesses patient’s understanding and compliance with the nutrition plan of care
4. Utilizes the best available research/evidence, evidence-based guidelines, and best practices to guide patient care.
5. Helps to develop, manage, and review RD protocol(s) for MNT and nutrition education of patients with diabetes and pre-diabetes.
6. Prepares reports on RD activities as required for outcomes data.
7. Multi-tasking skills related to the delivery of efficient primary care including the ability to share information and teach while treating a patient.
9 Regular attendance at staff meetings as required.

Experience
1) A minimum of 2 years working with diabetes patients is preferred.
2) Certified Diabetic Educator STRONGLY preferred.
3) Experience in the community and/or Primary Care setting preferred.
4) Spanish speaking a plus.
5) Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
6) Must be open-minded and non-judgmental.
Education
1) B.S. degree required
2) Meet the requirements for a Registered Dietitian as dictated by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
3) Current, active Registered Dietitian certification (also known as Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist)confirmed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration required
