The Ophthalmologist part of the eye care team, and will manage the eye care needs of a population with high complexity ocular pathology consisting of cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal and diabetic eye diseases. The Ophthalmology is responsible for: Overall patient care and functions of the Ophthalmology Section of Surgery Service. Part of an interdisciplinary staff consisting of general ophthalmologists, part time subspecialists, optometrists, technicians, administrative and clerical staff. He/she is responsible and accountable for ensuring the provision of comprehensive surgical/clinical services and complies with established policies within the Department of Surgery/ Ophthalmology section. Excellent surgical and laser skills are required. Teaching surgery and supervising residents in the operating room are required. Cataract surgery will most commonly be performed, but retina or glaucoma trained specialists are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work in a staff model environment with other physicians serving Veterans.
