POSITION SUMMARY Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment. RESPONSIBILITIES Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments. Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas. Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment. Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner. Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments throughout the facility. RESPONSIBILITIES Performs decontamination of soiled instruments, sterilization containers and equipment according to established protocols. Inspects instruments, equipment and containers to assure cleanliness and proper functioning. Corrects instrument sets according to current standards and established count sheets and/or instrument tracking systems. Maintains proper levels of inventory to ensure availability for case carts. JOB SUMMARY: Ability to Perform All HIM Operations and Leadership Support RESPONSIBILITIES: Assign and oversee job assignments and timely completion of all assigned tasks by clerical personnel. Assist with training new team members and updating existing staff on revised procedures. Provide back up as required for all clerical functions on any shift. Analyze and make decisions based on policy regarding physician record completion and/or suspension, and release of medical record information. Achieve Medical Records Discharge Not Final Coded (DNFC) goals for outstanding accounts awaiting physician dictation, signatures, and/or copies forwarded to Patient Accounting. Provide and/or cause to be processed, appropriate medical record information before deadline dates for requests from Review Agencies, Quality Resource Management Department, Patient Safety, Medical Staff Office, parties ensuring appropriate authorization or policy met. Assist in the implementation of new procedures/services to keep operations current, efficient, and cost effective. Assist in the development and maintenance of adequate departmental supplies to provide efficient workflow and keeping within or below budgeted amount. Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively. Maintains a safe environment. Participates in Performance Improvement activities. Monitors workflow and day to day functions within the HIM department to provide for accurate and timely completion and submission of medical records. Monitors Interfaces activities and/or Electronic Medical Record validity. Interacts with physicians related to incomplete charts and chart completion to optimize accurate, relevant and timely documentation as needed.
