The Department of Veterans Affairs Houston Healthcare System is seeking a full-time Optometrist to join our team in Lufkin, TX. The candidate will function as an integral part of the eye care. The Optometrist will provide primary eye and vision care services consisting of prescribing glasses and contact lenses, ordering diagnostic imaging and laboratory studies, determining a diagnosis, creating a treatment plan and patient and family health education. The Optometrist will function as independent provider with a Memorandum of Understanding with Ophthalmology for glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Qualifications:
Must be a U.S. Citizen (*If no qualified U.S. Citizen is found, will consider non- citizen candidates*)
Full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State
Completion of National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) Examination (preferred)
Completion of Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an Accreditation Council of Optometric Education (ACOE) accredited School or College of Optometry (preferred)
Completion of an ACOE accredited Residency program (preferred)
Experience performing comprehensive eye examinations and patient and family health education. (preferred)
Good communication and customer service.
Must be highly motivated, team-oriented, and committed to the care and good health of our Veterans
