POSITION SUMMARY

Assists the surgical team to provide patient care for assigned patients under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Demonstrates increasing knowledge of physical and technical requirements of surgical intervention: Moderately complex procedures, advancing knowledge of instrumentation � specialty sets. Demonstrates increasing knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Ability to scrub more than one specialty proficiently. Willingness to assist circulator. Responsible for maintaining effective communication skills. Participates in monitoring and maintaining resources in specific department. Understands and contributes to the vision/mission and goals of the department. Works in a secure department with access to areas where medications are stored. Handles and labels medications on the sterile field under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.

EDUCATION
Required: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.)

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
Required: Current CPR - AHA BLS required
Preferred: Successful completion of Surgical Technologists course from an accredited facility.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: Minimum of one year experience.
Preferred: Knowledge of hospital environment desired. Previous hospital and/or health care related experience preferred.

Skills
Required: Must possess effective interpersonal skills, team building, problem solving, critical thinking, coaching and mentoring.

Knowledge
Required: Principles of asepsis

Other
Preferred: Must be able to work variable shifts, holidays and/or weekends. Must be able to take call rotation when required. Must be able to perform all duties, including lifting and transferring, using proper body mechanics.
